Magnet Cafe Štefánka
STORY:
The legendary cafe was founded in 1897. Its first owner was Rosa Dresdner, who rented the
premises of the corner house from Countess Irma Erdódy. The countess certainly had
entrepreneurial talent, since the Grasalkovic Palace was built, and the surrounding plots
became a sophisticated and sought-after space. And so in places where vineyards grew,
magnificent palaces and villas of the aristocracy were built.
Countess Irma Erdódy was one of the first to buy a plot of land opposite Grasalkovič´s palace
and thus gave rise to the creation of a lucrative part of the city, which bears the name
Palisády.
Cafe Štefania immediately became one of the most popular in Pressburg at the time. Its
reputation and prestige did not suffer even from changing owners, as each of them brought
a stamp of individuality, elegance, art nouveau nobility and also an inherent fluid, which
brought here visitors from the bohemian environment - artists - writers, artists, poets, but
also doctors, lawyers and other important representatives from the ranks of intellectuals.
It still has its charm today. The atmosphere of monarchist nobility breathes on you from the
renovated premises, and if, in addition to coffee, desserts and excellent cuisine, you also
want something extra - you are in the right place. Here you will get snails a la Princess
Štefania, which were her delicacy, and in addition, don´t forget to try another gastronomic
specialty of the owner of the cafe - Bratislava prawns...
Visitors to the cafe also have the opportunity to get the book "Štefánka Cafe - in the changes
of time", where they can learn everything about its history and present.
